Remediation |
||
Remediation work of the Leichhardt depot site, adjoining Balmain Road and City West Link was carried out by Daracon (Environmental Pacific Services). In order to make lands suitable for redevelopment State Transit engaged environmental consultants GHD to conduct extensive investigations into contamination of lands identified for redevelopment. These investigations identified and delineated contaminants of concern as being Trichloroethane (TCE) in soil and groundwater, asbestos in soil, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH's), total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH's) in soil, and low level metals in groundwater. Subsequent to these investigations, GHD developed a remediation action plan (RAP) to remediate the identified contaminants. The remediation action plan, and subsequent remediation will be subject to a non-statutory audit process using a Department of Environment and Conservation accredited contaminated site auditor. On successful remediation of lands against the remediation action plan, it is expected that the auditor will sign off on the lands as suitable for the purpose of industrial/commercial special use, namely for redevelopment of a new environmentally friendly bus depot. Leichhardt Playing Field and Remediation Project The joint remediation of adjoining lands, being Lot 11 (State Transit land) and Lot 10 (Department of Education and Training Land), was conducted to permit the development of a playing field for the Leichhardt Secondary College. This project is being managed by the Department of Commerce. The remediation was conducted under a statutory audit by a Department of Environment and Conservation accredited auditor. All work for this joint remediation project by contractors Quantum Pty Ltd was carried out to strict Environmental and Safety Plans. |
